Fudge Room Renovation Part IV

Summer 2004

6 years after we moved in, we're still working on the 'fudge room'. In 2004, we had to start putting up siding as we had wrapped the fudge room in Tyvek in 2003.

We decided to go with cedar siding, and found a local Big C Lumber store that had the best price. So we bought 300 linear feet of siding and the siding project began ...

The siding was untreated, so we had to first paint each piece twice with white oil primer before we could start. I think we ended up painting the equivalent of 600 linear feet of siding!

Another view of the drying siding; since we were having clear sunny hot days this summer, it didn't take long for the paint to dry.

A shot of the left hand side of the south wall before the siding goes up.

The same wall, but now covered with wood siding. Due to none of the walls being square, each row had to be custom measured and cut.

Two days later, and the whole wall is now sided!

One wall down, and three to go! Tony framed the two windows and this wall is now ready to be sided. By the time winter hit, we had done the right corner side and the bottom portion under both windows.

It took us 3 days to paint all the siding twice (Tony's brother, dad, and myself were the painting crew), and we all got very tan doing so. Putting up the siding was not as easy as it seems : each piece had to be custom measured, cut, nailed into place and the ends caulked to the vertical boards.

Unfortunately, we were not able to finish the double window wall before winter hit. And, due to how water runs off the back roof edge, we're going to have to rewrap that section before we can put up siding. So we'll be finishing this up in 2005.
